Jim Throne is President, Sherwood Technologies, Inc., Dunedin FL, a consulting firm founded in 1986 and specializing in thermoforming, foam processing, and advanced polymer processing. He has been thermoforming thin-gauge parts such as foam burger boxes and food trays and heavy-gauge parts such as refrigerator liners and spas for more than thirty years.

He has published nearly 200 technical papers and eight books in polymer processing, including Technology of Thermoforming, Hanser, 1996, Understanding Thermoforming, Hanser, 1999 and Thermoplastic Foam Extrusion, Hanser 2004.

He holds nine patents including a fundamental patent on thermoforming crystallizing PET. He has a PhD in Chemical Engineering from University of Delaware and is Fellow of the Institute of Materials and the Society of Plastics Engineers.
